Description

Your initial FAW certification is valid for three years. When the certificate is due to expire, you are required to take a requalification course to maintain your first aid at work qualification, to refresh the knowledge and skills and to ensure that you remain competent in providing first aid in a workplace setting.

A new way of undertaking your First Aid at Work requalification, the blended format has online learning and 1 day in the classroom. You are sent an online login link that directs you to the course. This course can be dipped in and out of, you do not have to complete it in one session. We do recommend that you complete this close to the classroom date as the certificate must be brought in with you on day 1 of the classroom part.

The specific content of a First Aid at Work requalification includes the following elements:

  • CPR and AED Training: Participants will learn cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques for adults, children, and infants. They will also be trained in the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
  • Managing Injuries and Illnesses: The course will cover how to assess and manage a variety of injuries and illnesses commonly encountered in the workplace, such as burns, fractures, choking, heart attacks, strokes, and other medical emergencies.
  • Bandaging and Dressing Techniques: Participants will be taught proper bandaging and dressing techniques to control bleeding and protect wounds.
  • Assessment and Prioritization: Trainees will learn how to assess the severity of injuries and prioritize care based on the urgency of the situation.
  • Legal and Regulatory Considerations: The course will provide updates on any changes in workplace first aid regulations and standards.
  • Scenario-based Training: Practical exercises and simulations will be conducted to allow participants to apply their knowledge in realistic workplace scenarios.
  • Refresher on Previous Material: The requalification course will review some of the topics covered in the initial First Aid at Work course to reinforce your understanding.

The duration of a First Aid at Work requalification course is typically shorter than the initial full course, focusing on refreshing existing knowledge rather than teaching everything from scratch.

It's crucial for you to actively engage in the training to ensure you stay up-to-date with current best practices in first aid.

Upon successful completion of the requalification course, you will receive a new certificate, extending your qualification for another period (three years).

This certificate allows you to continue serving as designated first aiders in the workplace, ensuring that the workplace remains safe and well-prepared to respond to medical emergencies.
