For companies and individuals that require an Ofqual Regulated Course. This regulated, nationally recognised qualification meets all requirements set out in the Department for Education’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework. It’s designed for anyone who works with, cares for, or supports infants and children — whether in a professional early years setting or at home.

Who is this course for?

This qualification is ideal for:

  • Early years staff with a Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification who need paediatric first aid to be counted in the staff-to-child ratios under EYFS

  • Registered childminders and childminding assistants who must hold a full paediatric first aid certificate to meet statutory guidance

  • Newly qualified staff (Level 2 or Level 3) who started in an early years role on or after 30 June 2016 – they must complete full PFA or EPFA within three months of beginning work

  • Anyone involved with children outside of a professional role, such as parents, grandparents, carers, foster carers, and volunteers who want essential paediatric first aid skills


Course Overview

Across the 2-day course, learners build confidence and practical ability to deal with a wide range of first aid situations involving infants and children. Training is hands-on, supportive, and delivered in clear, simple steps.

Topics covered include:

  • How to assess an emergency situation safely and quickly

  • Managing an unresponsive infant or child

  • Paediatric CPR and how it differs from adult CPR

  • Safe use of an AED with paediatric considerations

  • Choking in babies and young children

  • Meningitis symptoms and what to do

  • Head injuries and spinal injury awareness

  • Fractures, sprains and strains in children

  • Anaphylaxis and use of auto-injectors

  • Asthma attacks and breathing difficulties

  • Febrile seizures, shock, bleeding and burns

  • Minor injuries such as cuts, grazes and bumps

  • How to report incidents and follow safeguarding procedures required in childcare settings
